Typically the individuals involved in a case will be required to undergo medical and psychological tests before their testimony will be considered valid. Similarly, with respect to any reported phenomena, the demonologist will collect evidence through mechanical means to ultimately verify its validity. When there is substance to a case, and the people are proven to be sane and honest, the demonologist will take into account all the accumulated information in order to determine what kind of spirit is involved. The demonologist will attempt communication with the spirit, or to test the environment with religious provocation or similar procedures to cause the entity to show itself. In cases of possession, the afflicted individual will usually be taken off to a secluded facility where scrupulous testing and examination will occur. It is at that point, psychiatrists would give their diagnoses and/or an exorcist would be assigned to the case. What is an Exorcist? An exorcist is instead a person of unique piety who is able to issue the commands of God against a force of evil. There are two types of exorcism: one for a dwelling, the other for an individual. To clear a dwelling of pernicious spirits, the exorcism procedure is in fact an elaborate blessing of the physical environment. In those very rare circumstances, when an individual is actually suffering from diabolical possession, the Roman Ritual of Exorcism, the Rituale Romanum, will be employed. What is Possession? According to theology, all human beings are composed of body, spirit, and soul. The body is the physical mechanism that realizes life. The spirit is that force which animates the body. The soul is basically the essence of your being; that is to say, it is a cosmic record of who you really are. Every human being has a spirit, we are told, and that spirit is the rightful heir to the body. When that human spirit is gone, the body is as lifeless as an empty shell. This state is otherwise known as death. Possession, the highest stage of diabolical interference, is a situation where an in-human spirit displaces the human spirit, and then proceeds to act through the human body. Because the inhuman spirit is corrupt and pro- fane, the results of this hijacking, this spiritual take-over, are equally corrupt and profane. Possession is an extremely rare event and is in fact prohibited by God. But the inhuman spirit is a disobedient spirit and it commits this act of defiance out of jealousy and rage. For this is a spirit that because of its faulted nature is prohibited from experiencing life in the earthly realm. Its only option is to therefore steal a body and do it anyway. The spirit would possess a human body by temptation and finally humans will give their will out for this to happen. However, this is not a spirit that shares our values. This is a spirit that instead exists in opposition to both man and God. And because man is a creation of God, its eternal intent is to disgrace mankind in front of God himself. It is an essentially stupid and feeble gesture, but it happens nonetheless.
